Almost finished the renovations of Casa Vicens, the first private building built by Gaudi, which becomes a museum.
The cultural offer of Barcelona, one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, is enriched by a new museum dedicated to Antoni Gaudì, father of Catalan modernism. The space will rise within Casa Vicens, the first private building designed by Gaudi when he was only 31 years old as a vacation home for the businessman Manuel Vicens i Montaner in the Gracia district, at the time was a countryside area located on the outskirts of the city. Casa Vincens, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2005, will be transformed from a private residence to a museum that celebrates Gaudí’s career debut.
Considered among the first examples of Liberty, it yields to the oriental taste so much in vogue at the end of the nineteenth century that also influenced the first part of Gaudi’s career. Built between 1883 and 1888, this building has remarkable influences both Oriental and Arabic, but also a series of elements – the use of colored bricks, tiles, iron, the clever combination of sculpture and painting and the vivid colors Will become the stylistic figure of the Catalan architect.
