With the careful layering of signs and images, languages and experiences of different types, Bellanca turns geographical places into spaces to be recomposed fragment by fragment.
The works on display are large canvases suggesting a journey through the places where The works on display are large canvases suggesting a journey through the places where Mediterranean culture was born and where western thought fused with that of the east. Places of temporary landings, departures and arrivals, telling stories of different peoples and giving material expression to voyages to be read as ancient maps of new itineraries.
These are unique maps, playing on a refined rarefaction of the pictorial matter, replete with nuances and aerial views suggesting the need to wander, everywhere and nowhere. Bellanca succeeds in recapturing the emotional quality of becoming, materializing it on the surface in a polyphony of signs, forms, images and colours that create pauses, superimpositions and intervals, surprising and unexpected.
